Today Windows Phone 7 was RTM:ed. I have followed blogs and press for a long time and it looks good but as we all know there is some features that we will miss. Now I really hope Microsoft understand that they need to do as Apple and Google has done – release updates to the phone regularly and this for free.

Time to learn a new name – Kin

Posted: april 12th, 2010 | Author: Björn Axell | Filed under: Kin, Windows Mobile | No Comments »

Today Microsoft announced the “Kin” phone. I’m not sure what to think yet, still to many questions unanswered:

  • How compatible is it with a upcoming Windows 7 Phones application store?
  • Does it have push mail? I think I heard them talking about contact from Exchange on the webcast but ’m not sure
  • Will it be sold outside US? If yes, will I be able to bye it in Sweden and from what operator?
  • I really like the “Kin Studio”-  will this be the new version of the Windows live “My Phone” service and will it be available for all Windows Mobile phones?
  • Is there any limits on “Kin Studio” or can I upload unlimited amount of data? If not, what will it cost to expand it?

A new System Center product announced today – System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008

Posted: oktober 23rd, 2007 | Author: Björn Axell | Filed under: SCMDM, Windows Mobile | No Comments »

Today Microsoft announced that there will be a new product in the System Center family – System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008. The product will cover three areas:

Security Management

  • Active Directory Domain joined (your Windows Mobile will be added as objects in Active Directory)
  • Policy Enforcement using Active Directory Group Policy (there will be about 130 policies that you can enable just as you do for a Windows desktop).

Device Management

  • Software Deployment (It will use WSUS 3.0 SP1 as it’s mechanism to deploy software and updates to the devices)
  • Inventory
  • Reporting

Mobile Optimized VPN

  • Machine authentication
  • Session Persistence
  • Fast reconnect
  • Internet roaming
  • Using standard protocols based IKEv2, MobIKE, IPSEC tunnel mode)

All this looks extremely good, but to be able to manage your device you need an updated version of Windows Mobile that will be released some time in Q1 next year. If your hardware vendor will provide this update for free is still not announced. Another question I haven’t found the answer to is if this will be included in the upcoming SP/version of System Center Configuration Manager.
